KEEP CALM and BOOK the rooms

I did a reservation for hotel rooms for guests from Belgium. It was a scary decision, since we don´t actually know yet who are coming, no one has really gotten any invites yet even. But specialy my dad was saying, that it would be good to book them some place already. And my maid of honor was thinking that maybe we would get some discount if we do the booking early enough and for a group.

I had some sort of calculation of who we will be inviting and how many rooms that would need. Since we don´t even know if Joery’s uncles and aunts are coming alone or with their kids/ Joery’s cousins, the rooms would be from 2-4 people. Also people will have to pay them self the rooms, so possibly rooms should be cheap, but still comfortable.

I was thinking that there is two reasons to book rooms from the same hotel for everyone.

1) For a possible group discount

2) people could use group taxis, so traveling at the wedding day will also be cheaper.

I must say, this originally felt like a really scary decision, but luckily I feel the result should be good. I got offers from some hotels in Jyväskylä. I decided to go for the cheapest option, which is also the most modified -since the same room can take 1-4 people with the same price. So extra beds are already in the room. The spot is also in the middle of the city, so people can go looking around the day before wedding or the day after wedding easily. Only major flaw that I can think of this hotel is, that it does not include breakfast. It does instead have microwave owen, water boiler and some tee and hotchocolate ready. Also there is not really any personnel, but that means that people don´t have hurry to sign in, like in some hotels. Hotel works with codes that the quest get day or two before. With that code, they get in the hotels electric lock door and to their rooms. For possible finnish people reading this text, the hotel is maybe familiar by now, since there I only one hotelchain in Finland that works like this and it is called Omenahotelli (apple hotel –no, it has nothing to do with the technology brand Apple).

And if someone is now thinking like OMG I don´t want to stay in a hotel like that. It is no trouble at all. Since the booking can be 100% canceled or altered even only 14 dyes before the booked day! So this is more like an option for people, if they don´t want to take the trouble to look different hotels and just want something easy and cheap from the town. Also I did the booking only for 2 nights, arriving day before the wedding and leaving the day after wedding. Probably we might need to figure some options for people who might stay longer time in Finland. But at least people have a place to stay just around the wedding.

For others we can recommend at least 3 other hotels, that are in a short walking distance of this Omenahotelli and are quite cheap price in finnish standard.

We will inform the prices in the invites. The other hotels I was thinking to recommend, if Omenahotelli is not to their liking, are Hotelli Milton, Sokos Hotel Jyväshovi and Sokos Hotel Alexandra. All include breakfast and they are all situated in the center of Jyväskylä. Hotel Milton is the cheapest and both Sokos hotels are almost the same price. Jyväshovi is just on the shopping street and Milton and Alexandra are one street down.

What about bridal suite?

Hotelli Yöpuu

We haven´t really figured out yet if we shall take a bridal suite or not. It kinda feels like a waste of money, since we do have home to go to. On the other hand, it is so romantic idea to spend the first wedding night in a bridal suite with breakfast in bed and glass of sparkling wine. But everything cost money and I think that is one of the first things I am ready to give up to save money. Also what would happen to our dog Leo? We can´t have our first night as a family split apart.. I mean I know he is just a dog, but I can be sure we would like

nothing more than to wake up in the morning and get Leo on the bed and enjoy the moment. We can save a sparkling wine at home for the morning and have some special breakfast also ready, (mmmm cheese… <3)

And I now took a quick look on the possibilities in Jyväskylä for a nice wedding night and so far the best atmosphere was in a hotel where I can´t even get with a wheelchair Hotel Yöpuu. So I am even more convinced, that we might just as well spend the night at home sweet home.
