I found it partially by accident, when surfing in Pinterest and looking for wedding ideas. I found really fun cake toppers, especially ones that the characters look like the bride and groom of the party. So, more personal. I asked a price from one maker in Etsy shop –since I really loved the characters she had made, like the top image. Price would have been over 200 euros with the shipping. So, maybe not her or any other similar makers in Etsy.
Instead I did some research and found out that they are using polymer clay to make the cake

toppers. Some Youtube tutorials and next thing I know I have 4 Fimo clay colors at our dining table and I am making a collie –for a practice. Yes, I think you are thinking what I am thinking: Why pay heck of a lot for some one when you can do it yourself. I really like the possibilities of this new element, clay, and the chance to maby make the cake topper exactly the way we would want it to be. Unless my own talent in crafts will be on the way.
The polymer clay is interesting, since it will get quite hard in the oven, but is easy to handle when not yet backed. There is also plenty of colors to choose from, and you can even blend the clays together and get new colors. I am for now trying to learn to create forms with the clay, so maybe when closer to wedding, I can make exactly the kind of cake topper we want! We have been playing with the idea of mixture of us as assassin´s creed characters or just really look-alike characters (with clothes, since I only do anime faces…). On the other hand something more classical and simply could be nice too, like our look-alikes made just from white. Also don´t know yet if we want to have Leo on the cake topper too or not. Or like next to the cake etc. We will see what time will tell.
I wanted to show what I have so far made with the clay, so here is image of Leo made of only stone looking clay and the snake I created in hope to help keep the straw in the glass when there is bubbly drink. You know how with soda etc drinks the straw always wants to jump out of the glass because of the bubbles. I feel I will be making a lot more things with clay, since it is really fun to work with and can turn in to so many things like earrings, key holders or magnets.
